2024 Warriors Dynasty Te Kura Pō Indigenous Round Jersey - Adults

Ka rere Te Amokura,

Ka hāro te kahu kura,

Ka tau he kura nō te pō

Emerging from te pō (darkness/night), the place of wānanga (learning/ knowledge sharing), growth and development into te ao mārama (light/day), the light of full expression, limitless possibility and action.

He kura tō mai nō te pō. A taonga (treasure) that has been shaped, moulded and sharpened through the darkness of the night steps forward into the light, taking the ebbs and flows of the moana (ocean), the continuous growth of our ngahere (forest), woven together like a korowai with the sacred feathers of Te Amokura.

An acknowledgment of our past, the gift of the present and the responsibility we have to the future.

Te Kura Pō.

The One New Zealand Warriors’ 2024 Indigenous Round jersey Te Kura Pō is the third consecutive Indigenous Round jersey designed by Toi Ake’s Maia Gibbs and Henare Brooking. Following on from Te Amokura (2022) which, when the team was based in Australia, explored te moana nui a kiwa (the Pacific Ocean) that connects the people of New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands together; and then Te Kahu Kura (2023) which acknowledged the club returning home to Aotearoa and also resembled a red-feathered korowai (cloak) worn by Rangatira (chiefs/ leaders).

Te Kura Pō explores growth, development, wananga and a refocusing in line with the club’s direction, aspirations and identity as well as speaking to the club’s growth in the junior pathways space with the inclusion of three new teams (U17, U19, U21)

  • Mana Moana (ocean) – The blue and the pūhoro and mangopare patterns represent inclusiveness and connection of all of us touched by te moana nui a kiwa.
  • Mana Whenua (land/ home) – The green and the koru and kōwhiri designs represent Aotearoa, Mt Smart and home as well as growth and new life.
  • Mana Tangata (people) – The red and the Taniko patterns represent people and the korowai that is woven together to connect us, protect us and strengthen us.
  • Manu (bird) – The symbols represent Te Amokura which speaks to the club’s overarching journey over the past three seasons tying together the three jerseys Toi Ake designed over that time.

Te Tairāwhiti-based Toi Ake Māori creative studio is led by tā moko artists and co-founders Maia Gibbs (Ngāi Tāmanuhiri, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kahungungu) and Henare Brooking (Ngāti Porou, Rongowhakaata, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Tūwharetoa)
