The artwork for our NRL Māori All Stars Fishing Shirt represents and acknowledges Matariki, which signals the Māori New Year. It is a time of renewal and celebration in Aotearoa NZ that begins with the rising of the Matariki star cluster.
2023 represents the first NRL All Stars game to be played on our whenua, Aotearoa NZ. It is a major acknowledgement of all tamariki, rangatahi, kotiro, wahine, tane ma of all who play and represent their iwi, hapu and whanau for the game of Māori Rugby League.
The Maori figure on the front represents 'Ranginui' the Sky Father.
Stars of Matariki cluster are the mother Matariki and her 6 daughters Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waipunarangi, Waitī, Waitā, Ururangi and Pohutukawa and Hiwa i te rangi.
