The New Orleans Pelicans were established in 2002 as the Hornets are the Charlotte based team relocated to New Orleans. The team rebranded as the Pelicans at the end of the 2012-13 season. The name represent the state bird of Louisiana, with the team colours representing the colours in the city flag of New Orleans and the team logo inspired by the French Quarter street signs.
